Our tagged Sociable Lapwings are on the move, making rapid progress as they travel southwards.
Three are taking the eastern migratory pathway (Maysa, Tesfaye and Vyan), with Tesfaye already at the key staging area on the Turkmenistan/Uzbekistan border where in a couple of weeks we will have teams on the ground to gauge the importance of the locale, assess habitats and possible threats.
Five birds (Ajaz, Canan, Nikoo, Sanjar and Shirin) are heading westwards towards the Middle East and Africa as their wintering grounds. Nikoo has already made it to Azerbaijan, with Sanjar close behind. Canan is taking a more northerly route.
Kiryl is the only bird to stay hanging around on the breeding grounds. His tag is transmitting, and he is moving, so all appears to be well.
